MONTHLY ACTIVITY REPORT

This graphic depicts the monthly call volume for the Sunrise Beach Fire Department.

The Department responded to 16 calls for service in February, including a fatal motor vehicle collision on Ranch Road 2900 that claimed two lives and seriously injured two others. The two injured individuals were transported by air ambulance to an area hospital. Ranch Road 2900 has seen multiple serious collisions in recent years, and drivers are reminded to exercise caution, maintain safe speeds for conditions, and avoid distractions on this roadway.

SBFD also responded to multiple grass fires last month, including a mutual aid request from Round Mountain VFD to assist with a 175-acre brush fire on Althaus-Davis Road. With March bringing peak wildfire risk to the Texas Hill Country due to dry grasses, low humidity, and gusty winds, residents are urged to check burn bans before any outdoor burning, never discard lit cigarettes or matches from vehicles, and maintain defensible space by clearing flammable materials around homes and structures.

To learn how to reduce your wildfire risk the Texas Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal (TxWRAP),  https://texaswildfirerisk.com/#about is a free, easy-to-use website with information, data and resources to help homeowners and communities understand, identify and reduce their wildfire risk. Take a few minutes to visit the website for ideas on how to enhance the defensible space around your home.

Finally, progress continues at a rapid pace on Fire Station 51 renovation project. Karl Wolfe, Project Manager, is projecting we will be back operational in the station by mid to late April 2026.

The Department responded to 16 calls for service in December including a grass fire on Ranch Road 2233 that was extinguished quickly.

The abundant grass growth from last year's wet conditions has now dried out, leaving large amounts of highly flammable material across our area.

According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the long-term wildfire risk forecast indicates drier and warmer-than-normal conditions persisting into next week and beyond. This pattern is expected to sustain elevated wildfire risk in our area for weeks to come.

Please remain vigilant and report smoke immediately to 9-1-1.  Avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, secure trailer chains so they don’t drag and spark, and don’t park vehicles on dry, tall grass as your catalytic converter can start a fire. Your caution helps protect our community.
